Explosion disaster near Novobogdanovka/Ukraine
On May 6, 2004 a military arms dump close to the village of Novobogdanovka in southern Ukraine exploded. According to press
statements 10.000 people in the surrounding villages had to be evacuated and a major highway and railway line connecting the
cities of Melitopol and Zaporizhzhya had to be blocked.

First satellite map of Ukraine arms dump blast near Novobogdanovka
The satellite image, taken on May 8, 2004 at 9:20 UTC, shows that the arm dump was completely destroyed and that large amounts
of debris were hurled hundreds of meters and even kilometres into the neighbouring villages and agricultural land. The satellite
imagery shows that some fires are still burning in the explosion area. The image was provided by European Spaceimaging and
processed by ZKI.
