Devastating forest fires in central- and southern Portugal

Beginning of August the Portuguese "Servicio Nacional de Bombeiros e Proteccao Civil" requested activation of the "International Charter on Space and Major Disasters". The "Center for Satellite Based Crisis Information" of DLR took over the project management for this call from Portugal at the request of ESA and is coordinating data distribution and analysis. During the 18 days of charter activation 52 image products have been delivered through ZKI to the fire control forces. more ...

Search for a missing climber in the Argentinean Andes

Between January 21 and 29, 2003 a private land search was carried out wtih the help of the German Remote Sensing Data Center (DFD) with the purpose to find a missed mountain climber or traces of him, which could give a logical explanation regarding his disappearance on Mercedario Area. The mountain climber tried to scramble the "Cerro Negro" in December 2002. more ...
